Curriculum

Developing the whole person

St Agnes Catholic High School offers a broad curriculum that caters for a wide range of student interests and abilities.  The curriculum at the school is designed to foster in each student a love of learning and a desire to reach their full academic potential.  Ideally it is well balanced, diverse and flexible, allowing students to proceed at their own pace, accelerate, if judged appropriate, and choose courses that allow them to consolidate their knowledge and skills.

The school strongly values the development of the whole person.  As a Catholic school, faith development is of high importance.  As part of this development, all students undertake courses in Religious Education in each year of their schooling.

In order to do this, the school has devised a curriculum structure that delivers to students a solid knowledge and skill base in a broad range of subjects during Years 7 and 8.

Gifted & Talented

St Agnes Catholic High School aims to ensure that each student reaches their individual academic potential. In the classroom, students are challenged and enriched providing opportunities for them to discover and develop their abilities to their full potential.

Gifted and Talented Education is the responsibility of all teachers at St Agnes Catholic High School. Learning programmes respond to each student's needs and academically talented students are encouraged to complete work appropriate to their ability and pace of learning. Teachers use strategies which tap into a variety of learning styles.

The school provides an environment to develop students beyond the regular curriculum. Activities are designed for students to discover, explore and extend their gifts and talents in a range of areas. These activities include:

  • Public Speaking
  • Music and Drama productions
  • Choir
  • Band
  • Debating
  • Art exhibitions
  • Representative sport
  • Social Justice events

There are also a number of external competitions and workshops made available for the students.  Public promotion of gifted and talented opportunities occurs through the newsletter.

A Gifted and Talented committee exists at St Agnes.  The committee was developed in 2008 to enhance the professional development of staff in gifted and talented education and promote opportunities within Key Learning Areas for students to realise their potential.  The committee meets regularly throughout the year.  Its aim is to identify and enhance the learning capacities of our students in developing their abilities to reach their full potential.
