Sport

Physical activity is an essential element that directly relates to health and physical wellbeing.

There are many benefits of physical activity. They include improved self-esteem, self-confidence, concentration, circulation, coordination, fitness, and social interaction. At St Agnes Catholic High School, students are encouraged to participate in as much physical activity as possible.

Integrated Sport

Integrated sport is timetabled into lessons in a fortnightly cycle for Year 7 students.

In addition, students participate in one sporting activity during each term and can participate in 4 sports over the course of one year.

Most sports are held at school facilities or at the nearby Morreau Fields. However, sports such as rock climbing, tennis, bowling, ice skating, golf and gym are held off-site.

Sport Carnivals

There are three sport carnivals each year.

  • Swimming
The Swimming Carnival is held in Term 1 each year. The carnival is organised with activities for all levels of swimming from non-swimmers to age champions.

  • Cross Country
Students attend a Cross Country Carnival held in Term 1 each year.  All students actively participate even if, as a minimum, that involves walking the Cross Country route under the supervision of teaching staff.

  • Athletics
The Athletics Carnival in held in Term 2 each year. The carnival provides activities for all levels of athletics from novices to age champions.
Sport is an important part of the curriculum and students unable to attend a compulsory carnival are required to provide a medical certificate, or have received written permission for the absence from the Principal.

Students who are highly placed in carnivals have several opportunities to progress and shine at representative level carnivals through the Parramatta Diocese Secondary School Sport Council (PDSSSC).

Representative Sport

The Parramatta Diocese Secondary Schools Sports Council (PDSSSC) provides the avenue for students across the diocese to experience most individual and team sports. It also gives students, depending on their ability, the chance to compete against other schools in the diocese during the weekly inter-school sports afternoon or to trial for PDSSSC teams/squads to compete in NSW Combined Colleges events against other Catholic school students across NSW.

From these events, opportunities exist for our talented athletes to compete at NSW All Schools and possibly national level in certain events alongside their state and independent school peers.

Try-out sessions and training sessions for representative sport are often held outside school hours and attendance is required for the chance to be selected and take part in matches.

The following table identifies the sports in which St Agnes participates with the PDSSSC.
