On Tuesday 27 October 2015, students from St Agnes Catholic High, Rooty Hill and Monte Sant Angelo Mercy College, North Sydney joined together at the Angus Kavanagh Learning Exchange Recording Studio to collaborate on the Path of Mercy Hymn project.
St Agnes’ Religious Education teacher Daniel Petrie said he was impressed with how the students collaborated and creatively worked together.

‘The students collectively wrote the lyrics, composed the music and performed/recorded a hymn to express what it means to walk the path of Mercy and to challenge the listener to stand up, raise their voice for the voiceless, to be the change they wish to see here and now,’ Daniel said. ‘It was aimed at reminded one another that we are God's hands and feet and that the gifts He gave us are tools for change.’

‘Pope Francis has declared 2016 as the Year of Mercy and it is hoped that this hymn will be used as a motivating musical prayer – to remind us that Mercy is a verb,’ he said. ‘Both schools were able to record a version suitable to their respective charisms.’
‘Following the recording, the students created a time-lapse artwork video clip to accompany the song so that their hymn could evangelise and motivate digitally through YouTube and social media,’ he said.
Time well spent together in the recording studio.

January 21 is the feast day of St. Agnes of Rome, our patron saint. She is the patron saint of young girls, chastity, survivors and the Children of Mary. St. Agnes is often shown as a young girl with a lamb, which represents her purity, and a palm branch, like other martyrs. The lamb may be at her feet or in her arms, reminding us of her innocent faith and courage.
