St Agnes Rooty HIll students at Uni

On the 24th October, eight year eight students were chosen to contribute in a Maths and IT day to Western Sydney University, Kingswood. The technology teachers, Mr Scarpin and Mrs Vincent accompanied the students throughout this enjoyable experience.

The day begun with an opening lecture by four Professors explaining why they chose their career involving mathematics and technology, and the significance of it. Students were separated into different groups with pupils from other local schools according to the colours given to them. The rest of the day was spent attending many educational and enjoyable workshops. These workshops included; solving a rubik’s cube, experimenting with maths problems using ‘Mathemagic,’ maths in engineering, robotics, and finally, the mathematics and technology campus race.

The race was a 75 minute race that consisted of seven challenges. Each challenge involved a clue located in a building throughout the campus, and a series of puzzles to be completed. At the end, prizes were then handed out for the groups that completed all challenges.

Overall, this was a day enjoyed by the students and teachers which was filled with many memorable experiences and opportunities provided by the Western Sydney University.
